LPP #130 Learning How We Have Value, Identity, Labels, & Expectations [Solo] Episode

IN THIS SOLO EPISODE I’M SHARING:

How exercise was modeled to me growing up

How this formulated my relationship with fitness

How being an athlete became a large part of my identity

The stereotypes we have of personal trainers & fitness industry professionals, imprinted from diet culture

The positive + negative effects of being an athlete

The experiences I had, that showed me how I had value

I didn’t know that my values was independent of my performance & appearance

Where I learned “smaller is better”

Adopting exercise as a coping strategy that evolved into a compulsion

How my relationship with exercise has evolved from control/keeping myself small → to feeling empowered

Believing I needed to suffer in order to earn approval, acceptance, love, belonging

Questions I am asking myself:

  • Why am I exercising right now?
  • Am I doing it to feel empowered and connected to myself?
  • Or am I doing it to control/manipulate my body? Because I feel obligated to?
  • How will this exercise make me feel after? Empowered? Disempowered?
