LPP #94 Empowered Healthcare, Naturopathy, Acupuncture, & Restoring Balance with Dr. Grace Chang

Today I’m chatting with Dr. Grace Chang, who is a naturopathic doctor and licensed acupuncturist practicing in Seattle, Washington. Trained in both Western and Eastern medicine, she blends the two worlds to empower her patients to take charge of their health.

She completed her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Biology at the University of California, Davis and received her medical degree from Bastyr University in Washington. Since then, she has completed a CNME accredited, two-year residency focused on IV therapy and primary care. Dr. Grace rallies for wellness and preventative health care, applying evidence-based medicine and natural modalities to restore balance between the body, mind, and spirit.

IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:

  • How she blends Eastern & Western Medicine
  • How the entire body is connected examples of IBS and C-Section scars
  • The manifestation of physical symptoms in connection with trauma (physical and/or emotional)
  • She acknowledges that although a medical professional, she doesn’t have the answers for everything
  • How we are in charge of our own health – she invites people to not be a victim and provides tools that empower them
  • Her original pursuit of physical therapy what initially drew her to it & what ultimately lead her to pursue acupuncture instead
  • True medicine and why it accounts for so much more interaction and connection between the patient and the doctor
  • Her explanation of naturopathy and how it encourages your own body to heal itself
  • The importance of self-reflection instead of always “putting a bandaid” on our symptoms
  • The importance of the WILL to want to heal
  • Pain/suffering comes from we don’t accept our reality
  • You don’t have to identify with your diagnosis
  • When we take authority over our situation we take the power back
  • Shopping around for your ideal health care team
  • We dive into gut health/ gut microbiome
  • We talk about language and the words we choose to describe our health – and the impact they can have
  • She shares about her experience being raised in a culture where women traditionally play the supporting role, and how she challenged the status quo.
  • “Be the doctor your parents wanted you to marry”
  • Doctor as teacher
  • Once finishing residency and not knowing what she wanted to do – and feeling like she was “supposed to know
  • The rise of functional medical practitioners
  • The power of being out in nature and disconnecting
