Almond Butter

All you need is 1 cup of raw (unprocessed) almonds, a high quality food processor, and some patience!

Each picture was taken at 2-3 min increments. I used my Black & Decker 12 C food processor. You’ll need to scrape the sides down with a spatula in the beginning, but that’s it! Process on ‘high’ for 12- 15 mins. It’s really that simple! ‘Yes’ to having homemade raw almond butter in under 15 mins!

You may need to add a little oil if you’re using soaked, dehydrated almonds.

1 cup of almonds = yields about 1/3 C of almond butter

2 tsp Raw Honey (optional – stir in after!)

1/4 tsp sea salt (optional – stir in after!)

After you’ve made the butter you can also add honey and/or salt. But be sure you hand-stir these in after you’ve made the butter, as it will overwhelm the mixture if you try to add it beforehand (the mixture will seize if you try to add it into the food processor).

Enjoy!

Hey Engrid, I love this idea. I make my own peanut butter, and once I made a magnificent batch of cashew butter. Will surely give almonds a go for some healthy protein boost in the diet. Both Almonds and honey are so full of wholesome goodness, and I love the fact that you mention raw honey in the recipe. I just published a post about the benefits of raw honey over the pasteurized kind. You can read it here- http://giftsofgaia.wordpress.com/2013/07/05/raw-honey-the-food-of-gods/

Hi Gaia! I love cashews so I will have to give that a try. I really liked your article about raw honey! I knew there was benefits to raw honey but certainly didn’t know the extent! Great article and I agree that raw honey isn’t quite as aesthetically pleasing but what it lacks in presentaion it makes up for in health benefits in comparison to all of those ‘natural’ honeys as you mentioned! Very informative 🙂
